Watchmen Movie Review and 12% Discount On Orders

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

I saw Watchmen with 5 other comic geeks and we all LOVED IT.

Watchmen 12% Discount On All Orders

Watchmen 12 Percent Discount On All Orders

Watchmen was a fantastic adaptation from the comic book/graphic novel. Snyder painfully, and lovingly, adhered to the theme that Moore and Gibbons created 20 years ago.

It succeeded in its adaptation and interpretation just as Peter Jackson’s translation of Lord Of The Rings succeeded; with unerring, devout commitment to every single friggin’ detail in the book . The commitment and attention to detail and strict adherence to the plot and imagery in the comic is unlike no other comic-to-film ever seen, except for possibly Robert Rodriguez’s adaptation of Frank Miller’s Sin City.

I cannot stop thinking about this movie and how accurate and dead on target it was in honoring the works of Moore and Gibbons. Everything about this movie was taken STRAIGHT from the comic. Even though the scene with the newspaper stand and the kid reading the Black Freighter comic had no more than a couple seconds on screen, you will notice that Snyder duplicated virtually everything from the comic, down to the patch on the kid’s left knee and the green sweater worn by the street vendor with the left-over-right lapel. (For those of you who’ve seen the movie, notice who is in the foreground of the movie pic.)

This is truly a movie that can only be fully appreciated by those who have read, and reread, the graphic novel that Moore created in 1986 and 1987. Each time you read Watchmen, you learn a little more about the story that you hadn’t known before. After reading, and upon experiencing the movie, you will be amazed at the Watchmen come to life in a believable and very real alternate reality.

Above all the other Watchmen, Rorschach shined with surprising and exceptional grittiness that surpassed what was in the book. No wonder why the audience cheered during his vent in the prison cafeteria; “You don’t get it! I’m not STUCK IN HERE WITH YOU! YOU’RE STUCK IN HERE WITH ME!!” God I loved it.

Yes there are some alterationgs from the comic book, but surprisingly few. The death of Rorschach has Nite Owl as his witness, but it only contributed as we watched Nite Owl plunge further into his dispair and disillusionment. When he screams NO!! we all scream NO!! for are we all not disillusioned and betrayed by our heroes who kill to save us.

Aside from the absence of the Black Freighter story and the accompanying newstand backdrop, and the murder of Hollis Mason by the Top Knots gang, which I hear will be added to the dvd, there was very little missing from the original story.

I cannot WAIT to see this movie again and to buy the extended version dvd with the extra hour and a half.

I loved this movie. You’ll definitely want to get your hands on some Watchmen merchandise once you see the movie.

Luke Cage Movie – 2011

Luke Cage - Classic Comic Look, with Fro!

Luke Cage - Classic Comic Look, with Fro!

A young black, Harlem, street-punk, gang member (Of course. At the time, Marvel wouldn’t have it any other way) named “Lucas” who was ended up serving time in the big house for heroin that was obviously planted in his apartment by a rival gang member.

While in Seagate Prison, research scientist for the government, Dr. Noah Burstein recruits Lucas as a “volunteer” for an experimental cell regeneration experiment, which just so happens to be based on a variant of the Super-Soldier serum Burstein had previously helped to create.

Volunteering for the experiment was done in exchange for an early parole for Lucas. If you know your history, you can see the irony here since the government has been known to do THE EXACT OPPOSITE to the American black man where they actually injected them with syphilis to see what would happen.

Jesus, our loving government working hard to support the disenfranchised, and people wonder why the black man hates Whitey so damn much. I would too with that kind of loving government support.

Well, the experiment didn’t go as planned, since it was sabotaged by a security guard hoping to kill young Lucas. Instead of finding a cure to any illnesses, it accidentally, oops, granted a streetwise felon titanium-hard skin and mega-heavier, enhanced muscle mass.

The New Luke Cage In The New Avengers

The New Luke Cage In The New Avengers

Lucas uses his new found power to escape Seagate Prison and makes his way back to Harlem, where a chance encounter with criminals inspires him to use his new powers for profit. Hey, if you’re going to do the right thing and help people, you might as well get paid for it, right?

Lucas created the identity of “Luke Cage – Hero For Hire,” a superhero private dick. Cage eventually formed a business partnership with Iron Fist. Through the groundbreaking series Power Man & Iron Fist, the two became one of the better-known superhero duos of the 1970s.

To practice brevity here, Marvel creates the New Avengers, dusts off the yellow silk top and looses the chain and wrist bracers, and tiara, and shaves the fro off Cage’s head and gives him a whole new look.

Behold, the New Avenger Luke cage. Tyrese Gibson is supposed to be playing Cage in the Luke Cage movie which is to hit the screens in 2011. Tyrese is a famous rapper, actor, model, and MTV VJ.

Maybe you remember seeing him as one of the bad ass soldiers in Transformers. We can’t wait to see this movie! Now if only we had some Luke Cage merchandise and t-shirts to shlep!

Terminator Salvation: May 22nd, 2009

Terminator Salvation: May 22nd, 2009

Ok, this looks, REALLY, REALLY good! I can’t wait for this movie to get here. And to think, Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) is playing John Conner. What a perfect job of casting. Watch the trailer here.

To catch the low down on the 4th Terminator movie, Terminator Salvation, which is due to hit the screens May 22nd, 2009, be sure to catch what Sci-Fi Wire.com has to say. Warning, they got spoilers.

Basically, in a nut shell, John Connor is neck deep in the fight against Skynet. But… things are different from the way Connor, and you and I, remembers. Mom didn’t tell him about all this new fangled Terminator plan complete with a huge friggin Harvester Terminator that deports Moto Terminators to track down humans for… well, for harvesting I assume. Sounds a little Matrixy if you ask me, but so what! I want a Moto Terminator mommy!!

Two other people to look for are Bryce Dallas Howard, the hot chick who played Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man 3, is playing Kate Conner. Ohhhhh, MAMA!!

And Michael Ironside (from Starship Troopers). I love this guy! He always does an excellent performance. We’re watching ER and he even came in as an asshole doctor for a bit. GOD, I can’t wait for this movie to hit the screens.

Catwoman, Eartha Kitt, Passes Away On Christmas

Friday, December 26th, 2008

If you are any fan of the Adam West Batman tv show back in the 70s, then you’ll be saddened to hear that one of the three beloved actors who played Catwoman, Ms. Eartha Kitt, has passed away. She died from colon cancer at the age of 81.

Catwoman Eartha Kitt dies

Eartha was born in 1926 on a South Carolina cotton plantation.  Her mother was part Cherokee and African-American, her father Germa and Dutch descent, who’s surname was Kitt who’s father was the owner of the plantation Eartha was born on. From an early age she was ostracized because of her mixed-race heritage. At 8 years old, Earth was given away by her mother to go live with her aunt Anna Mae Riley in Harlem.Â

After her Riley’s death, she was sent to live in New York City with her biological mother Mamie Kitt. As a teen ager in New York, Eartha auditioned for the Katherine Dunham Dance Troupe. By age 19 she eventually won a spot as a featured dancer and vocalist and toured worldwide with the company. While touring in Paris, she was spotted by a nightclub owner and booked as a featured singer at his club.Â

Welles gave Eartha her first starring role as Helen of Troy in Dr. Faustus. Welles and Eartha had a torrid affair where Welles nicnamed her “the most exciting woman in the world.”  She eventually landed Charles Revson, as another lover, who was the founder of the Revlon cosmetic company, who custom made a flaming red lipstick, for Eartha, that was called Fire and Ice.Eartha’s famous cat-like purr and unique persona earned her fans and fame quickly. Â

She sang many hit songs, including the 1953 Christmas song. She became well known in Britain when she scored a Top 40 hit in 1980 with the disco classic ‘Where Is My Man?’ that found her new audiences in nightclubs. It was in the Batman series in the 1960s that Eartha became a household name after Julie Newmar left the show. Unfortuntely it was during a White House luncheon with the Johnsons that she made some anti-war statements that upset the First Lady, Lady Bird Johnson. That incident put a hold on her career.

She made a comeback in the 1970s by doing New York’s Broadway, and later appeared regularly in theatre shows and concert halls. One of her more unusual roles was as Kaa the python in a 1994 BBC Radio adaptation of The Jungle Book. Eartha was born to a 14-year-old girl who was raped on a cotton plantation and was handed over to another family before being sent to live with an aunt in New York.

Connection between Heroes and Lost?

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

heroes Matt Parkman

Is there a connection between Heroes and Lost?  Yub! Or, so says Greg Grunburg in his interview with the buddies at Buddy TV

“BuddyTV spoke to Greg Grunberg about everything related to Heroes and some things that aren’t. He talked about the possible impact of the writers’ strike and what viewers can hope to see in the immediate future, revealing when the Big Bad Biohazard storyline will be resolved. Grunberg also spoke about reuniting with his Felicity father Alan Blumenfeld (now playing Parkman’s father) and about how awesome Alias co-star David Anders is. And for Lost fans, Grunberg clued us in to the fate of the character he played, the pilot of Oceanic flight 815. Continue reading for the full transcript and audio file of the interview.”

HOLY SMOKES! I forgot that he played the pilot on Lost. [hey, I don't proof read this stuff, I just read while I post.]

Hi this is John from BuddyTV and I’m talking to Greg Grunberg, one of the stars from NBC’s Heroes. Hi, Greg! How are ya?I’m doing great. First off, I just want to ask, the writers’ strike is fresh in everyone’s minds. I’m wondering, how is that affecting Heroes and the production?

Well, it’s interesting, we got a really early jump on the season, the writers did at least, we were way ahead which is a really good thing for awhile. But as you know in TV, as soon as the episodes start airing, it quickly catches up to you. We had a couple extra scripts but now we’re pretty much caught up and I hope this thing gets resolved very quickly because we all want to get back to work. We’re still shooting, but we have another couple weeks and then we go down because the writers don’t have any finished. You know, they have, basically a break-down and some outlines of the next few scripts, but nothing complete enough for us to keep shooting. It’s frustrating because we’ve been on such a roll this year, especially right now with all the stories, you know. It’s a shame, I hope it gets resolved quickly.

Yeah. So what’s the last episode for which the script is officially fully done?

I believe it’s going to be 13.

OK.

Yeah, I believe so. But that could change. Things happen, you know, it could be 12, it could be 13. It depends. We’re in the middle of, just finished episode 11, so we’re just about to start episode 12.

And is that the end of…because season 2 was supposed to be divided into two chapters, I believe. Is that the end of the second chapter?

The second one ends with episode 11.

So you’re going to film the first couple and with the writers strike, would you air the first couple episodes of the new chapter, or would those be held off? Do you know?

I don’t know, that’s a good question. It depends on a million things, with the network, and how they want to do it. We’re lucky, Tim Kring and Dennis [Hammer] and Allan [Arkush], they were really smart in breaking this up into volumes, for a couple reasons, but this plays into it in a good way because we get to wrap up stories and sort of have two season finales and two season premieres every season. So, if people aren’t happy with what they’ve been seeing, story-wise or character-wise, it ends on episode 11 and there’s a whole new set of story points and exciting things that are introduced, to carry us through the second half of the season, so for various reasons, I think it’s a good thing. It also plays into the comic book element of our show, breaking it into volumes like that.

Definitely. So by episode 11, the biohazard in the future, that’s all going to be resolved by episode 11? Or is that going to carry over into the next chapter?

That’s all resolved. And the biohazard stuff is even resolved before that. A couple episodes before, which will actually be next week or the week after. Yeah, because that was episode eight that aired last night.

No, that was episode seven.

Oh, that was seven, OK.

Next week is the flashback to four months ago.

Right, right, right. Which is so cool. I love that we do that on our show, especially because people have been waiting. They’re like, “I don’t understand! What?” There’s some major looming questions that I think people have. We were, I think, possibly better at it last year at answering all these questions early on. I think it’s taken a little longer this year, over the course of more episodes to answer some questions, but everything will be answered as far as, how did they get from that explosion at Kirby Plaza to where they are, when we started four months later. A lot of those questions, almost all of them, are answered next week….

OK, and actually I just have one final question, and it’s not Heroes, but will we ever get to see the pilot of Oceanic flight 815 again on Lost?

As a matter of fact, we will. And I have to leave it at that. Unfortunately, I’m not allowed to talk about anything else, but yeah, we will.”

Well, there you have it. Greg’s an awesome guy and plays an awesome character. And you can read the rest of the story at Buddy TV
