MegaCon 2012 Travel Day
It’s 10:33pm and we have literally just landed in Orlando after essentially traveling since around 12:30pm, half of which was driving to the airport and snagging a great lunch at TJ’s Restaurant and Drinkery… (Note to self, if I ever open a bar, call it a Drinkery instead…)
Now it’s off to the hotel to rest up and get ready for set up day at the convention center.. Ugh, I see a ton of heavy lifting up ahead… Until then….
12:35am… Just sat down to brinner (breakfast for dinner) at Denny’s while simultaneously realizing we need to be up around 6:30am… What did I sign up for…
MegaCon 2012 Set-up Day
I don’t think in all the times I’ve been to Florida, whether its to visit family or hit up the parks, that I’ve ever willingly been up at 7:30am… Feels like I didn’t even sleep at all… But I’m raring to go, ready to start unloading at 10am…
Although as I’m typing this I just found out we can’t start moving till 2pm… Dammit lol… Welp, time for the 2nd half of breakfast? After Denny’s at almost 1am I’m actually still kind of full….
Update: 9:30am… Screw it I’m taking a nap…
3:18pm- Frankenstein’s Monster starts to take shape…
6:50pm- So had I not been here at Megacon I would’ve been starting a workout regimen for a diet I had started about a month ago… Needless to say coming to Florida for a convention where meals would be limited mostly to junk, I was a bit nervous and knew without the workout I may need to start all over… Well bleep that noise… I haven’t sweat this much during a gym workout ever… We’ve been going strong since 2pm and are where I hope is the halfway point…
I just found out its not… Ugh…
I do have to say though, despite the sweat and exhaustion I’m geeking out left and right being surrounded by Dr. Who’s TARDIS and about 14 different R2 units… Man this is gonna be a great weekend…
1:23am- Despite the fact it’s 1:23am I’m still calling this day one darn it… It wasn’t too long ago we finished everything we could for setup before they booted us out, but man it still was a long flipping day… Day one went really well to me… To be honest, after the stories I heard about Con setups, I really wanted to come in proving my worth and expecting to be the Usain Bolt of Cons!! Yeah that didn’t happen… We did great but ran into typical snags you expect to see with these sorts of things… Still super excited about tomorrow and the weekend as a whole… But having to be up by 7am is not helping matters… The few rounds of beer snagged after setup? Totally needed and worth it….
MegaCon Day 1
7:46am- Yaaawwwnnn… Man I’m still tired…. Walking up to the Orange County Convention Center to start day 1…
Guests and ticket people will start showing up at noon so we have about 4 hours to finalize setup… Really hope there’s only like 3 hours of work to do… Fingers crosses!
12:00pm- It begins…
8:46pm- Officially done with the first day of Megacon and I gotta say, I’ve never been more in my environment than I was today… It was awesome.. The cosplay was nuts, I got to meet Brent Spiner and Eddie McClintock (which was flippin sweet), and I got to talk shop with thousands of nerds!!! Huzzah!!
In all seriousness everything went great, good steady amount of people, our kick-ass photographer doubled as a kick-ass Dr. Doom and I’m already way too excited for WonderCon next month…
Now back to the hotel for a well-earned beer and some din-din…
MegaCon Day 2
8:50am- Hoofing it over from the hotel to the Convention Center to start day 2… Gonna be a long busy day but man I can’t wait…
3:45pm- Holy crap!! I just saw the ECTO-1!!
7:47pm- Good lord, I cannot feel my legs… Seriously I’m going to need medical attention right now, I may in fact be incapable of moving ever again… Today was busy as all get out, but so much fun its ridiculous… Saw a ton of people and some amazingly great costumes… And some, well some were just too out there even for my comprehension… In addition i have come to the obvious conclusion that I know nothing about Anime, and it confuses the bejeebus out of me… Dinner time with the crew, possibly an Arkham City themed event tonight, (how bleeping cool), and then back to the grind tomorrow for the final day… Until then!
MegaCon Day 3
8:47am- Missed the van… Looks like this guy is hoofing it again!
2:14pm- Still amazed at how Adam Jay (our photographer), looks in his Dr. Doom outfit… Sickest costume I’ve ever seen…
5:02pm- Closing time!!
8:58pm- And then there were none…
Well MegaCon 2012 has officially ended and we are completely packed and ready for the trip back to PA… I have decided after this weekend that I’m not folding my laundry for a year to make up for all the extra folding I did… I also intend on sitting for about a week straight until I regain full use of my lower extremities again…
Next stop Anaheim for WonderCon! See ya there!
