Star Trek - A Really Pissed Spock (Zachary Quinto) Executing The Vulcan Choke Hold

Star Trek - A Really Pissed Spock (Zachary Quinto) Executing The Vulcan Choke Hold

Surprise, surprise. Last night the infamous hoax screening of Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan occurred at the Alamo Drafthouse. People were all ready to wath KHAAAAAN, along with a 10 minute screening of the J.J. Abrams’ new Star Trek movie!

For those that were there, security seemed extraordinarily high. … hurmmmm… Must be residual paranoia from the early on-line release of the Wolverine Origins movie. Ooops! So, the movie starts, the famous score plays, giant blue space-age letters announcing the movie Wrath of Khan.

…. and right when the Kobeyashi Maru was starting to roll, a green scratch ran down the screen, signifying that this is a restored print. White specks and more scratches along with fuzzy sounds and blurs. Then the classic 1970s movie house faux pau occurs where the frame splits, and the audience sees the top of the frame on the bottom portion of the screen and the bottom portion of the frame at the top of the screen, with that black band in the middle, as if the film guy up above bumped the “screen projector.” Ooops!

Then! The ultimate occurred. The film actually burned, melted from the center out. The owner of the Alamo Drafthouse came out, apologized and promised to rectify the situation. The writers of the new Star Trek film were then asked to answer questions for the audience. One of the writers did a vocal impression of the TV series original theme song. And then… something spectacular happened. …

Star Trek: Star Ship Getting The Crap Kicked Out Of It

Leonard Nimoy appeared. Everyone goes nuts, hooting and hollering. He teased the audience, reminding them that Australia was going to watch the premiere of the movie and that they only had 10 minutes. After a little more tongue in cheek, Nimoy announced that they were, in fact, going to watch the new movie. The audience goes nuts again.

Did the movie live up to expectations? … Apparently so! More than so. Word on the street is that it’s “Incredible,” “Spectacular,” and “a Must See.” This is not your ordinary run-a-the-mill Star Trek. No, in fact, it’s an entire reboot of the series with a financial budget that allowing for cutting edge special effects and big name talent. This movie honors the series, adhering and expanding upon what the original actors brought to the screen. It has managed to capture the heart and soul of the original series along with breathing a breath of fiery, fresh life into the characters without straying from their original conception. This film ROCKS!

Star Trek: Awesome Baddy, Nero (Eric Bana(The Hulk)) On Screen

Star Trek: Awesome Baddy, Nero (Eric Bana(The Hulk)) On Screen

Everything about this film is awesome. Captain Pike (Bruce Greenwood) is there(1, 2), you remember, the comatose guy in the black wheel chair with blinking lights. And the new villain Nero (Eric Bana) simply rocks the house with his menacing demeanor.

And the new cast? Zachary Quinto‘s Spock is right on the money. He IS Spock. Chris Pine did an excellent Kirk without resorting to the stereotypical stop-speak imitation of William Shatner’s Kirk. Simon Pegg as Scotty was right on the money as well, and funny. Karl Urban was a perfect Bones McCoy.

At the end of the film Nimoy speaks again. The film simply ROCKS. I Cannot wait to see it. And you know what… they’re working on the second film.

Star Trek Trailer – Now With Spock!

Star Trek comes out May 8, 2009. Looks great. Is that Kirk as an enisgn? An excellent way to start a small series. Can’t wait for this to hit the screens. Be sure to catch all the other cool movies coming out this year.

One of the best Spock scenes ever was when he died. I cried like a little baby and was completely bummed out for days.
