Hellboy, a large, red demon with a tail, filed down horns, and a humungous right hand made of stone, fights for the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD), an international non-governmental agency charged with protecting the U.S, and the rest of the world, from supernatural freaks. As an infant, Hellboy, demon name Anung Un Rama (the Beast of the Apocalypse), was brought to Earth by Nazi occultists but was "rescued" by U.S. forces and eventually raised by Prof. Trevor Bruttenholm, founder of BPRD. Writer-artist Mike Mignola created Hellboy.
