Lettuce is NOT the taste of sadness!

Lettuce, true believers, is the taste of health!

But if we're being honest, then yes, lettuce -- and any other leafy green vegetable sprouting from the ground and reeking of wet soil -- is seriously lacking in the taste department.

In fact, there's zero taste -- only a crisp, alien texture that can't POSSIBLY relate to anything healthy. But it does, so we suffer through its tastelessness one excruciating nibble at a time.
