Stormtroopers pride themselves on uniformity. Same helmet, same shirt, same pants, same gun, same poor accuracy....same keychain! See, that keychain is the important part. Without it, they have no idea who they are and what they belong to...other then everybody else looking the same. They need something unique! Everybody has helmets and shirts....who has keychains? The Ewoks used to but they don't really drive anymore; they just steal speeder bikers from lazy storm troopers. So, barring our fuzzy friends, the Stromtroopers are the loan masters of the keychain.
