Alex Ross is an American comic book painter, illustrator and plotter, acclaimed for the photorealism of his work. Ross is known for his love of the vintage looks of classic characters and the more mythic elements of the superheroes. In short, Ross' art work is simply masterful to behold. He puts the "Man" in Superman and breaths realism into each hero no matter whether it's with seams and wrinkles in the hero's costume (getting away from the spray painted suit look) or with depicted age in the character's hair and face. You can always tell an Alex Ross image by the super-realism of image. In the past ten years, Ross has done a crap load of work for Marvel and DC Comics, but he is also the co-creator of the most excellent comic series Astro City, an original series that explores superhero mythology and is one of the most underappreciated comics in the industry. Stop what you're doing right now and go get the comic! No! Really, go right now and get Astro City. You will not be disappointed. Although Ross is a prominent figure for both DC and Marvel, he is better known as a DC artist, as much of his best work (such as Kingdom Come) was created for DC... anothier incredible read, one of the best in the industry. Due to the time and effort required to render his complex paintings, he is often hired to craft covers rather than interiors. Almost all of his Marvel work since 1994 has been as a plotter or cover artist. The image here is of Superman, with his black and red symbol, immediately after he was blasted by Magog's power staff in the graphic novel Kingdom Come. The image is a full frontal screen, which is why it costs so freaking much, and is unlike anything else made in the hero universe. This shirt will not disappoint!
