Created in 1966 by Gene Roddenberry, airing only 3 seasons, marketed as a Western in outer space yet modeled after Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels while maintaining a highly progressive political agenda reflective of the emerging counter-culture of the 60's, the show ended up with a huge fan base that fell in love with Kirk, Spock and crew on the nuclear wessel! Each episode functioned on 2 levels: as a suspenseful adventure story and as a morality tale. Not only that, the Federation babes wore way short mini-skirts and black go go boots! The franchise has successfully launched a reboot with the arrival of Star Trek the 11th film in 2009. We can't wait to see more!
