I think Clark Kent was wearing the combination cotton polyester Superman Logo Neo 39Thirty Cap after he gave up his powers for Lois Lane in Superman II. Unfortunately for Kal-El, Zod and that exceptionally ill tempered dude at the diner were desperately asking for a beat-down and he didn't have any powers left! Luckily for him he still had that crystal chamber...and the Superman Logo Neo 39Thirty Cap which acted as the foci! Not familiar? It may have been separate from the Richard Donner cut.
